Grass Growth Against the Odds: Neil Jerman’s Story

This summer (2025) has been one of the toughest in recent memory for grass growth. Hot weather and a lack of rain left many fields across the UK burnt off and struggling to recover, leaving farmers facing difficult decisions around forage supplies for the winter.

But in Mid Wales, farmer Neil Jerman is seeing a very different picture thanks to his use of Edwards Advanced Seaweed and BioN.

Neil has been using our products for around five years across his farm in Llangurig. Speaking to Dave Edwards in the field, he explained how his pastures have held up during the dry spell:

“This field here we’ve had two cuts of silage off it. The last cut was taken a fortnight ago, then we grazed it with some lambs for a couple of days. We’ve had very little rain in the last two weeks, and as you can see there’s a reasonable grass growth coming back. I think there’d be many farmers in the area, and as we head down across the country, that would give their right arm to have grass like this.”

Neil has also been using Edwards Advanced Seaweed and BioN on his drier, south-facing grazing ground with shallower soils. Despite the challenging weather, the pastures kept ticking along, allowing him to keep stock happy through the summer until rainfall returned.

Importantly, Neil highlights the cost-effectiveness of the treatment:

“We buy an IBC of it – there’s no other chemical fertiliser really that compares on price to what this will do.”

At a time when many farmers are struggling with low grass growth and concerns about winter forage shortages, Neil’s experience is a clear example of how seaweed and BioN can make a real difference. By working with your soil biology rather than against it, Edwards Advanced Seaweed & BioN help deliver resilient regrowth and healthier, more productive pastures – even in difficult conditions.
