Why Use Edwards Sea Juice?

Benefits of adding Edwards’ Sea Juice to poultry water include:

  • Supports gut health and digestion, helping birds make better use of their feed

  • Encourages natural resilience, particularly during periods of stress such as temperature changes, moving birds or routine changes

  • Improves egg quality, with many keepers reporting stronger eggshells and more vibrant, richly coloured yolks

  • Natural and chemical-free, suitable for keepers looking to reduce reliance on synthetic additives

Easy to use and gentle enough for regular inclusion, Sea Juice fits seamlessly into both backyard/smallholding poultry routines and large-scale operations, supporting calm, content and productive birds the natural way.

Benefits for broiler poultry

Adding Edwards’ Sea Juice to broiler poultry's drinking water provides natural nutritional support during key growth phases.

Liquid seaweed is naturally rich in vitamins, trace minerals, antioxidants and bioactive compounds, which can help support:

  • Improved growth performance, supporting efficient weight gain and feed utilisation

  • Gut health and digestion, helping birds absorb nutrients more effectively

  • Natural immune function, particularly during periods of rapid growth or environmental challenge

  • Overall meat quality, supporting bird health and condition throughout the fattening period

Why Edwards' Sea Juice

Liquid extracts are often more readily absorbed by the chicken's digestive system than dry meal, as the extraction process breaks down cell walls, making nutrients more available.

Delivered via drinking water, liquid seaweed is easy to administer, removes the need for additional feed handling, and fits effortlessly into everyday poultry routines.

Backed by the latest research!

Recent research has helped explain why seaweed-based supplements are gaining attention in poultry nutrition.

A 2025 peer-reviewed meta-analysis, published in the Journal of Advanced Veterinary Research, reviewed data from 27 independent studies examining the use of Ascophyllum nodosum (a brown seaweed) in broiler diets. The analysis found a significant positive effect on body weight and growth performance, alongside benefits linked to gut health, nutrient utilisation and immune function

The study highlights that these benefits are driven by seaweed’s naturally occurring bioactive compounds, including polysaccharides, minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. These compounds are shown to support digestive efficiency, promote a healthier gut environment and help birds cope better with the demands of modern production systems.

Importantly, the authors note that how seaweed is delivered matters. Extracted and liquid forms can improve nutrient availability and consistency of intake, which is why adding liquid seaweed directly to drinking water is a practical and effective approach for both commercial producers and smallholders.

Bryn Owen, Poultry Farmer

“When you use synthetic multivitamins with hens, it can sweeten the water and encourage them to gorge. That often leads to bigger eggs, which might sound good, but it actually causes serious problems. Shell quality can suffer, eggs become too large for packers, and worst of all, hens can prolapse and die.

I’ve experienced losing up to 40 birds at a time, usually when they’re young, around 25 to 30 weeks. Their systems simply can’t cope with producing eggs that size. As birds age, eggs naturally get bigger, so managing that is critical.

Edwards Sea Juice has helped me control egg size rather than push it. It doesn’t promote oversized eggs, and since using it, I’m no longer losing birds through prolapse. That alone makes a huge difference. Duration and finishing strong is the best way to make money in poultry farming.

I started with 32 chickens and now run a flock of 31,250. We administer Edwards Sea Juice through a dosatron, applying it once a week over a 24-hour period. I can actually see it working, the eggshell colour deepens, which tells me it’s doing its job.

I still use Vitamin D and carry out routine vaccinations, but Edwards Sea Juice has become a key part of my management system. Egg packers don’t want oversized eggs because they’re more likely to break, so consistency and shell quality matter.

For me, the biggest benefit of Edwards Sea Juice is improved bird welfare, fewer losses, and a more stable, profitable flock.”
